5.0 out of 5 stars The Amazing World of Liam McEneaney
Bill Sweeney (NY, NY, US)
In “Comedian,” his initial CD release, Liam McEneaney shows why he is in demand not just in New York but around the world. He brings priceless insights into the complexities of modern relationships – ones that do and do not require partners – but it’s when he closes the apartment door that his tilted take opens up.
The city – if Queens counts as that, and he admits it’s debatable – is his stage, the place where the neighborhood nicknames bring on the drama. It’s seriously funny but McEaneany doesn’t stop at the Apple. Beyond the New World lies the old, and for someone named Liam it has to be Ireland’s emerald fields and contentious cows. And trains. Ireland is not known for its rail service, and Liam is happy to tell you why. This is quite a ride and the disc’s hysterical highlight. For listeners and Liam alike, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.
